About our music director, Nigel Kerry
Nigel Kerry is Director of Music of the Church of Our Lady & the English Martyrs, Cambridge. One of the largest catholic churches in the UK, it attracts a weekly congregation of over two and a half thousand. The church’s music department consists of over seventy musicians, from two adult choirs, choral scholars, junior choir and a music group. A new music school has just been established in the parish offering professional tuition in piano and singing.
The parish choir feature regularly on BBC Radio 4 ‘Sunday Worship’ and in addition they have recorded the ﬁrst commercial CD commemorating Pope Saint John Paul which has sold thousand of copies around the world.
Nigel read Theology at Oxford University and studied the organ with Nicholas Danby at the Royal College of Music. As soloist he has performed in such prestigious venues as Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall (with the London Concert Orchestra) St John’s Smith Square, King’s College Cambridge and St John’s College Cambridge, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. Concert abroad have included a solo recital at the National Concert Hall in Kiev, Ukraine - the ﬁrst UK organist to be invited to do so.
Like his teach before him, Nigel is an enthusiastic and articulate teacher of his instrument. As well as teaching under/post graduates organists at Cambridge, he is also Organ Tutor to King’s College Choir School and St John’s College Choir School. He is a founder/trustee of the Cambridge Academy of Organ Studies for advanced players and to date has appeared on some thirteen commercial recordings as soloist, conductor and producer.
Nigel is a Senior Member of St Catharine’s College Cambridge and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
